Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: For Maytag washers

    Repeat this step on the far right side.
  2. Step 2: use the putty knife to pop up the control panel by sliding it underneath the control panel on the far left.

    Note:
    If there are no screws on the backside of the Whirlpool washer, remove the decorative end caps on each end of the control panel to expose the screws. , Be sure to place the wires up out of the way so they don't get caught inside the washer. ,, Place it out of the way. , Remove the two black clips holding the pump in place and swing it out of the way. ,, Remove motor. , One half will be attached to the motor, the other half will be attached to the transmission shaft. , Note:
    The black cardboard piece that sits in the middle of the coupler is usually in small pieces.

    It is shown in good condition in photos. , You may need a piece of pipe and hammer to secure half of the coupler to the transmission shaft. , Replace the motor, motor brackets and screws.

    Connect the wiring harness and replace pump and pump brackets. , Finish by replacing the brass springs, reconnecting the lid switch and reattaching the control panel (and screws if applicable).
  3. Step 3: For Whirlpool washers

  4. Step 4: use the screwdriver to remove the two screws from the back of the unit.

  5. Step 5: With the control now released

  6. Step 6: flip it back out of the way and disconnect the lid switch.

  7. Step 7: Using the screwdriver

  8. Step 8: pop out the two brass springs.

  9. Step 9: With the lid open

  10. Step 10: grasp the cabinet and lift it up and tilt it forward at the same time.

  11. Step 11: The pump and motor will be located underneath the washer drum.

  12. Step 12: Disconnect wiring harness.

  13. Step 13: Remove two brackets and two screws holding the motor in place.

  14. Step 14: The coupler will now be expose.

  15. Step 15: Remove both pieces of the coupler.

  16. Step 16: Put the new coupler on.

  17. Step 17: Reassemble the washer in reverse.

  18. Step 18: Replace the cabinet

  19. Step 19: making sure to line up the small holes with the tabs.
