Step 1: Drive a stout stake into the ground where the end of each proposed bottom step is to be.
The width between the two stakes should be three feet. -
Step 2: Form the sides of the step by setting 10” x 6” boards into the bank so their outer ends are flush with the outer edges of each stake and nail them in place.
In order to keep them in place they should be set in hollows dug in the ground. , Thus the three boards form three sides of a box, long ones being placed in front and short ones at the sides. , Do this twice more and you will have four partly hollow ‘boxes’. , You may prefer to fill them with soil and turf the surface of each step. -
Step 3: Nail a 3’ x 6” board at the front at right angles to the side boards.

Step 4: Measure upwards by 6” and inwards

Step 5: towards the bank

Step 6: by 10” and repeat the process above.

Step 7: Fill the boxes with gravel (coarse below

Step 8: fine on the surface) and tamp them down hard.
