How to Change Your Hourly Rate on Elance

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Open a web browser.

    Double-click on the icon of your preferred browser on the desktop to launch it.

    If the browser's icon is not on the desktop, you may find it in your programs list; click it from there.
  2. Step 2: Head for the Elance website.

    Once the browser is open, type in www.elance.com on the address bar at the top of the screen and hit Enter.

    You will be taken to the website's home screen. , Type in your username and password on the fields provided then click "Sign in" to access your account. , After you log in, you will land on your job screen.

    To get to your profile page, click on the arrow-down tab beside your username at the top-right portion of the screen.

    From the drop-down menu that appears, scroll down through the five options and select “Profile.” , Once your profile page is displayed on the screen, you will see each individual section has a blue “Edit” button.

    To the right of your picture is a green subheading called “Overview.” Click on the blue “Edit” button beside it. , Scroll down past Display Name and Tagline until you see the Hourly Rate section.

    You will see two boxes: one is for your hourly rate and the other is for what Elance actually charges clients.

    Remember that Elance charges a 10% fee for every dollar that comes through. , Click either of the boxes, and then simply type in the new rate you want to charge.

    The amount in the My Hourly Rate box is what you will actually be paid.

    If you edit one box, the other will be adjusted automatically. , Check the hourly rate you typed in, and then click on the green “Save” button at the bottom of the page once you’re satisfied with the amount.

    You will be redirected to your profile, and if you scroll down, you will see that your new hourly rate is now reflected on your profile.
