    Don't cut too much; just remove the dry part of the tip and root.
  2. Step 2: Put the onion cut-side down on the cutting board.

    ,, If the first layer of onion is slimy or dry, remove that as well. ,, Cut finely spaced vertical stripes into onion, top to bottom, making sure not to cut all the way through the root.

    You want to leave a section of the root intact, to hold the onion together. ,,, Diced onion.
