Step 1: Master the regular cartwheel.
Make sure that you can do a regular, two-handed cartwheel really well before moving on to the one-handed cartwheel.
Practice doing cartwheels from either your right and left foot, if not both.

Step 2: Find a good surface to practice on.
You will probably fall a few times on your way to mastering the one-handed cartwheel, so it's a good idea to practice on a soft surface.
Use a gym mat if you have one, or find a nice patch of soft grass in a park or your back yard.
