Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Step 1: Gather your supplies together.

    You will need paper tissue napkins, scissors, pipe cleaners (aka "fuzzy wire"), a stapler, some florist tape and a pair of scissors.
  2. Step 2: Fold a paper tissue napkin into fourths.

  3. Step 3: Lay two pipe cleaners across the folded napkin diagonally.

  4. Step 4: Staple the pipe cleaners in place using at least two staples.

  5. Step 5: Twist the pipe cleaners together to form a stem.

  6. Step 6: Cut the corners of the napkin away to create a circle with all "raw" (no folds left) edges.

  7. Step 7: Clip the outer edge of the napkin circle to create "tabs" or "teeth" or "flaps".

  8. Step 8: Lift the top layer of tissue and scrunch it together into a point of sorts.

  9. Step 9: Lift the next layer of tissue and crumple/scrunch it up and around the first layer.

  10. Step 10: Fold or wrap the bottom layer of tissue down and around the pipe cleaner stem.

  11. Step 11: Cut a length of florist tape (around 20 inches is fine) and wrap the bottom layer of tissue to the pipe cleaner stem.

  12. Step 12: Place completed "carnation" stems in a vase to hold them while you complete as many more as you need.
