How to Disable Auto Correct on a Mac
Go to "System Preferences.", Select "Language & Text.", Check “Correct spelling automatically.” In the upper right-hand corner of the window, there will be a box entitled "Correct spelling automatically."

You can do this by clicking the Apple in the upper left-hand corner of your screen followed by “System Preferences” from the drop down menu.
If you are using a newer operating system like El Capitan, Yosemite, or Mavericks, select "Keyboard" from the "System Preferences" drop down menu. -
Step 2: Select "Language & Text."
This will prompt a window to appear.
From this window, select the "Text" tab., If you would like to disable autocorrect, make sure that the box is unchecked. -
