  1. Step 1: Back up your device.

    To do this:
    Connect the iPod to your computer.

    Launch iTunes.

    Select your iPod.

    Under Manually Back Up and Restore, select Back Up Now.
  2. Step 2: Determine your model and firmware.

    The jailbreak process will differ slightly depending on your specific model and the firmware it’s running.

    Select Settings > General > About.

    Under Version, it will tell you what firmware you’re running and the model in brackets.

    An iPod Touch 2G will likely have firmware from iOS 4, but it’s possible it may be running iOS
